Abstract
Pre-service science teacher preparation must constantly evolve to enable prospective science teachers to adapt production of desired learner outcomes, to any teaching and learning environment. Such pre-service science teachers will facilitate appropriate responses by schools to rapidly changing technological, working and life skills This case study rooted in interpretivist paradigm, sought to find out how approaches utilised in science teacher training assisted pre-service teachers in teaching science in diverse environments Purposive sampling was used to select twelve pre-service science teachers and five science educators as participants, considered information rich sources. Document analysis, semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions were used to collected data. Data were thematically analysed. Results stress the need for science educators to use approaches which develop competences of pre-service science teachers to contextualise teaching and learning for achievement of intended learning objectives.
